SPORT2SUPPORT – Sponsored walk for Notts County Foundation, MenCap Me Time and Forget me Notts

Notts County Foundation, MenCap Me Time and Trent Bridge Community Trust’s Forget Me Notts are partnering for a sponsored walk fundraiser around some of Nottingham’s most iconic sporting venues. Vicki, a MenCap user, initiated this event as she wanted to raise funds for groups she is involved in through doing something exercised based to raise awareness of mental health, while also benefiting her local community by completing the task with her peers.

On 24th March 2023, supporters of these charities are going to be following Vicki from Portland Centre to Meadow Lane, City Ground, Trent Bridge and then to the Nottingham Ice Centre, before returning to Portland for a raffle and buffet. The sports clubs have kindly accepted the proposal to allow the group to walk around the perimeter of the pitches to give the participants an added exclusive experience. The total distance equates to 6.8 kilometres, which was chosen to represent the approximate number of 68 million people in the United Kingdom that live with some form of disability or health condition. The 6.8 km sponsored walk, led by Vicki will promote physical exercise, community, and peer-to-peer support. Vicki chose the sporting venues to be the main part of the charitable walk because she is a huge Nottingham Panthers and Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club supporter and is a user of Notts County Foundation’s Portland Centre so felt that it would be great to include some of her real passions.

Creator of the Sport2Support event Vicki said: “I am very excited and proud to be leading this wellbeing walk to raise funds for 3 mental health charities. It is going to be a great experience and will take a real team effort to complete. It is a real privilege to be able to work alongside some major teams in Nottingham and I would like to thank Notts County Football Club, Nottingham Forest Football Club, Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club and Nottingham Panthers for helping me get Sport2Support off the ground!”

Harry Dalzell, Marketing and Communications Coordinator at Notts County Foundation and member of the Sport2Support project said “When Vicki approached the Foundation with her idea and asked us to be a part of it, I jumped at the chance to get onboard with it. MenCap are a valued user of The Portland Centre, so anytime we can support them in a joint fundraiser is a great opportunity. Vicki is inspirational and learning about her passion for sport and how she wants to integrate that into an opportunity to raise money for her community is outstanding. The sports clubs involved have been unbelievable too, despite their busy schedules all the participating clubs have gone above and beyond for the Sport2Support – Sponsored Walk.’ Please donate however much you can, as the money raised will have a massive impact on members of your community!”
