Remembering Gerry Moore: A Lifetime of Black and White

Gerry Moore was born on 23 March 1944 in Aspley and passed away on 9 December 2025 at King’s Mill Hospital. To those who knew him, Gerry will be remembered as a devoted family man, a pillar of his local community in Brinsley – and above all, a lifelong Notts County supporter whose love for the club never faded.

Gerry’s family have since chosen to honour his memory through a donation to Notts County Foundation. Funds raised in Gerry’s name will help provide matchday experiences for disadvantaged children at Meadow Lane during the 2026–27 season, creating opportunities for more young supporters to build their own connection with the club he loved.

Gerry’s connection with Notts County began at a young age and quickly grew into a lifelong passion. He held season tickets with his sons from their earliest years, passing on what the family fondly refers to as ‘the County bug’.

This love for the club saw Gerry travel the length and breadth of the country following the Magpies, from memorable weekends in London watching Notts play Tottenham Hotspur, to cold, wet midweek away games at places like Oldham.

Notts County was not just a football club to Gerry, it was a constant in his life. He still held a season ticket in the Pavis Stand for the 2025/26 season and continued attending matches until just a couple of weeks before his death.

That passion was proudly shared with the next generation. Gerry’s four grandsons all caught his love for Notts County, and one of his proudest moments came when he stood alongside them at Wembley as the club clinched promotion back into the Football League. It was a day that perfectly captured what football and family meant to him.

Away from the stands of Meadow Lane, Gerry was a true community man. He spent all of his adult life living in the village of Brinsley, where he was well known and deeply respected.

When his two eldest sons reached the age where Saturday football clashes meant choosing between playing and watching Notts County, Gerry found a solution. Together with his wife, Carole, he helped establish Brinsley Magpies, a youth football team playing in the Derby City League on Sundays.

In recent years, Gerry continued to attend local football events, including the presentation evening for newly formed club ATFA Brinsley, where he proudly awarded the Gerry Moore Cup to the player who best embodied the club’s values.

Gerry’s generosity extended well beyond his family and village. In his younger years, while selling County 75 lottery tickets, he used his commission to buy season tickets for underprivileged children, ensuring others could experience the joy of matchday at Meadow Lane.

It was this quiet kindness that inspired his sons, Stephen and Andrew, to honour his memory in the same spirit following his passing.

With an initial target of £500, the family set up a fundraising page named Gerry’s Tickets and shared it across local community groups, among friends and fellow Notts County supporters. Donations were also collected at Gerry’s funeral. Within six weeks, the total raised had reached an incredible £2,330.

Working alongside Notts County Foundation, the family helped create an inclusion-focused package. Gerry’s memorial fund will now be used during the 2026–27 season to enhance matchday experiences for disadvantaged children, helping more young supporters make memories at Meadow Lane.

It is a legacy Gerry would have loved… his name continuing to help children through football, community and kindness. A lifelong Magpie, Gerry Moore’s spirit will live on in the stands, in the village he called home, and in every child given the chance to fall in love with Notts County.

We would like to think Gerry and has family for their generosity and support, and hope to see Gerry’s grandsons back at Meadow Lane soon.
