The power of football extends far beyond the action on the pitch. Through a special partnership between Notts County Foundation and the Free Kicks Foundation, five young people connected to our programmes were given the opportunity to enjoy unforgettable mascot experiences during the 2025/26 season. From walking out at Meadow Lane alongside the players to meeting their footballing heroes, each experience created lasting memories for the young people and families involved.
Partnering With Free Kicks Foundation
Free Kicks Foundation are a charity dedicated to providing unforgettable sporting experiences for children and young adults across the UK. Since 2007, they have helped nearly 2,000 young people enjoy special ‘Kicks’ experiences, ranging from meeting their favourite teams to attending matches and becoming mascots.
The charity works closely with football clubs, support groups, schools, charities, and local communities to identify children and young people who would benefit most from these opportunities. Every experience is made possible through fundraising and the support of trustees and supporters, helping to bring joy, confidence, and treasured memories to families across the country.
At the beginning of the 2025/26 season, Notts County Foundation approached Free Kicks Foundation to explore the possibility of working together. Following discussions, Free Kicks Foundation generously donated funding for five walkout mascot packages, alongside five Notts County home shirts, for young people connected to the Foundation’s programmes.
Three fixtures across the second half of the season were selected for the mascot experiences.
International Women’s Day Fixture – Hilarie

The first mascot experience took place during Notts County’s fixture against Grimsby Town on 28th February, which also marked the club’s International Women’s Day fixture.
Hilarie, who attends our holiday club provision, was selected to be part of the occasion and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
“I wanted to say a massive thank you for the opportunity to be a mascot for Notts County FC. I absolutely loved every minute of it! Getting to support the team and watch them play was an incredible experience. As a huge football fan, it’s been a dream to be part of the energy at Meadow Lane. I’d jump at the chance to do it again sometime as football is really fun.” – Hilarie
For Hilarie, the opportunity represented more than just a day at the football, it was a chance to be at the heart of the atmosphere at Meadow Lane and experience something she had always dreamed of.
A Special Day for Tom and Sofia
The second mascot experience came during Notts County’s fixture against Cheltenham Town on 21st March.
Tom, who attends our disability sport programme, We Belong, was selected alongside his sister Sofia. Sofia regularly attends sessions whenever possible, supporting Tom and becoming part of the wider programme community.
The day created a memorable experience for the whole family, with players and officials helping make the occasion extra special.
“Thank you for thinking of him and Sofia. They had a brilliant time. All the players and officials in the tunnel were lovely, especially making a fuss of Tom.” – Jo, Tom and Sofia’s mum
The We Belong programme continues to provide inclusive opportunities for young people across Nottinghamshire, helping participants develop confidence, friendships, and a sense of belonging through sport.
Supporting Alfie Through Football

On 18th April, during Notts County’s fixture against Barnet, Alfie enjoyed his mascot experience after recently being diagnosed with Juvenile Arthritis.
The Foundation had recently visited Alfie’s primary school as part of support work following his diagnosis and treatment. The mascot experience offered another opportunity to create a positive and uplifting memory during a challenging period.
“I just wanted to say a huge thank you for everything you did on Saturday. Alfie had the absolute best day – it truly meant the world to him, and it’s a memory he’ll never forget. We’re so grateful for all the effort that went into making his mascot experience so special.” – Alfie’s mum, Laura
Seeing Alfie enjoy such a memorable day at Meadow Lane highlighted the positive impact football can have beyond the game itself.
Andreea’s Opportunity
Andreea, a pupil at Greenfields Primary School in the Meadows, also enjoyed a mascot experience after winning the opportunity through a school raffle.
Her inclusion ensured another young person from the local community could enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime day supporting Notts County.
More Than Just Football
These mascot experiences showcased the impact strong community partnerships can have on young people and families.
Through the support of Free Kicks Foundation, five young people connected to Notts County Foundation programmes were able to enjoy unforgettable experiences at Meadow Lane, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
The Foundation would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Free Kicks Foundation for their generosity and continued support in helping provide these opportunities for young people across our community.
