Greythorn Primary School proudly represented Notts County Foundation, emerging as winners at the regional Premier League Primary Stars (PLPS) Under-11s Girls Cup.
Competing against some of the strongest footballing schools across the region, the team delivered an outstanding performance showing skill, resilience, and teamwork.
The regional finals, hosted by Chesterfield FC Community Trust on Wednesday 4th March 2026, at Staveley Miners Welfare FC, brought together teams representing professional clubs including Nottingham Forest, Leicester City, Chesterfield, Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield United, Mansfield Town, Rotherham United, Lincoln City, and Doncaster Rovers. The tournament formed part of the Premier League Primary Stars programme, designed to inspire young players, build confidence, and provide a platform for girls to thrive in football.

From the very first whistle, Greythorn demonstrated their quality. Playing with confidence, they progressed through the group stages and knockout rounds with composure. Across the entire tournament, the team conceded just two goals.
Their journey to the final showcased not only technical ability but also resilience. Every player contributed, displaying excellent team spirit that reflected both their school and Notts County Foundation with pride.
The final proved to be a fitting climax, as Greythorn faced a strong Leicester City side. Rising to the occasion, the team produced one of their best performances of the day, securing a well-deserved victory to be crowned regional champions.
Beyond the result, the team’s attitude and conduct stood out. Their determination, respect for opponents, and unwavering support for one another embodied the core values of the Premier League Primary Stars programme.
As regional winners, Greythorn Primary now move one step closer to the unforgettable opportunity of competing at the national finals. Before that next stage, the players will enjoy a special visit to Meadow Lane, home of Notts County, where a few exciting surprises await them as a reward for their incredible achievement.
