Notts County Foundation’s Captain’s Corner Award recognises individuals and groups who go above and beyond for their community. Whether through their dedication to Notts County or their professional lives, the award celebrates those whose commitment and character embody the spirit of service, passion, and pride.
The latest recipient is lifelong Notts County supporter and season ticket holder David Turner, whose remarkable career with the East Midlands Ambulance Service has spanned more than three decades.
Dave has served as a Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) Paramedic and Team Leader – a role demanding courage, resilience, and professionalism. The Hazardous Area Response Team consists of specially trained NHS paramedics and ambulance personnel who deliver medical care in high-risk and challenging environments.
As Dave marked his final day with EMAS – which also happened to be his 60th birthday – Notts County Foundation paid a surprise visit to the operational base of HART to honour both his retirement and his outstanding contribution to public service.
Reflecting on the moment, Dave said:
“It’s an end of an era for me. I was one of the originals when we started HART at EMAS in 2008. After 30 plus years, it’s the right time to go, and today is a special day, made even more special with a visit from the Club.”
Dave’s dedication to service has been a defining feature of his life. Since leaving the army, he has never been out of work, a testament to his work ethic and unwavering sense of duty to others.
Away from his professional career, Dave’s passion for Notts County has been a constant. His love for the club began in childhood after his family moved to Nottingham, and a first visit to Meadow Lane sealed a lifelong bond.
“I was black and white through and through, and have been ever since, through thick and thin, up and down the leagues… I’ve always worn the shirt with pride.” – Dave Tuner
A proud season ticket holder and LifeLine member, Dave has also passed his passion for the club down through his family. One memory, in particular, stands out with his daughter:
“The proudest moment was of course Wembley when we beat Chesterfield… her smile just summed up what it means to be a Notts County fan.”
Receiving the Captain’s Corner Award came as a complete surprise to Dave, who was quick to share the recognition with those around him:
“I’ve got it, but it’s thanks to the whole team around me. Without their support I wouldn’t be who I am or do what I do. To receive this… wow… I am beyond words. To know the Notts community have thought of me, that will be framed on the mantel piece.”
The occasion also carried deep personal significance:
“I lost my dad in September (2025), and he will be looking down on me with pride. My family know what being a County fan means to me… It feels like a dream.”
Notts County Foundation extends its heartfelt thanks to Dave for his extraordinary service, dedication, and continued support of the club and community. We wish him every happiness and success in his retirement.
